Scholarships

The Drama Department offers scholarships for continuing students that are declared majors, as well as incoming freshmen. Before a scholarship is awarded, the student must be accepted by the university. Then he or she are invited to the campus to audition, be interviewed or present their portfolio to the department's faculty.  Audtion/Interview dates are in the spring semester and will be announced later in the year. Some arrangements can be made for individual appointments.

Internships and Jobs

The department has student positions in the scene shop, house electrics and the costume shop. Each spring the department posts notices for applications for these positions. In addition, internships have been established with many of the local theater organizations, including Asheville Community Theatre, North Carolina Stage Company and The Diane Wortham Theatre. If you are a declared major and are interested in an internship, please contact the department chair.

Clubs and Organizations

The Department supports two student organizations on campus:  the student chapter of the United States Insitute for Theatre Technology and Alpha Psi Omega.   

The student chapter of USITT has been active since 1994. It is open to all students and focuses primarily on technical theater and design. Members attend the national conference and support local productions.

Alpha Psi Omega is the national honorary theater society and students of all areas of theater are encouraged to join.  Members hold support gatherings and produce a student show each year.
