Mission and Student Learning Outcomes
The mission of the Drama Department at the University of North Carolina at Asheville is to provide a holistic theatre education with the goal of producing creative, knowledgeable, and collaborative theatre artists who understand their responsibilities to their community, their art, and their personal growth. The Drama Department will promote theatre through an integrative approach to course work and productions that challenge, enlighten, and engage our students and community.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students must demonstrate basic skills in the interpretation and production of pre-existing texts.
- They must be able to express a personal value system based on their broad knowledge of the theatrical past.
- They must be able to apply skills and knowledge within a theatrical production and explain the personal and cultural significance of the production.
- They must be able to demonstrate mastery in one of the following areas: acting, design, directing, k-12 theatre arts licensure or theater history.
In addition, declared majors are expected to meet with the faculty each semester and present what production work they have been active in and what cultural, artistic and curricular connections that they have made.
