Our vision is to provide a learning environment that facilitates students' artistic and civic development, nurtures the creative process, and promotes critical thinking.
The Department of Drama at UNC Asheville supports a holistic theatre education with the goal of producing creative, knowledgeable, and collaborative theatre artists who understand their responsibilities to their community, their art, and their personal growth. All students share a common core of classes that help establish critical thinking skills with a sense of aesthetics. These learned skills are then applied in our laboratory, the mainstage productions. The mainstage shows have auditions that are open to the entire UNC Asheville community, and we invite all in the Asheville area to attend.
Applications are now being accepted from current UNCA students who wish to apply for a spot in the "Echoes of Theatre Piece No. 1" where we will be generating an original, interdisciplinary work in an ensemble-based setting with the Siti Company, who will be in residence Spring 2019. We plan to enter the final piece the Fringe Festival in August 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Click here to access the application.
